SMART Girls A health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles. Two individual groups. Ages 9-12 and 13-19. Contact: Tanisha Carpenter
SMART Leaders A program designed to prepare teens to become leaders in their Club and community. Participants engage in educational discussions about alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs and are encouraged to recruit other youth for the program. Contact: Tanisha Carpenter
Healthy Habits Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience; from the gym to the learning center to the arts and crafts room, the central themes of good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well being are emphasized. Goals for Graduation Introduces members to academic goal-setting by linking their future aspirations with concrete actions today. The program's recognition strategy is designed to give members constant, intentional encouragement as their successes are acknowledged and reinforced at every step of their journey. Ages 13 - 19. Torch Club A powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members learn to work together to plan and implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation. Ages 11 - 13. Youth Court A character and leadership program for high school students (grades 9-12). Volunteers are trained to conduct hearings for real cases referred by the Suffolk County Probation Department. Contact: Janet Wohlars, 451-8022
Passport to Manhood Concentrates on specific aspects of manhood through highly interactive activities. Each participant is issued his own "passport" to underscore his personal journey of maturation and growth into manhood. Ages 11 - 14. Contact Tanisha Carpenter
Drop-In Lounge Come and relax, socialize or participate in a variety of games and computer activities. Ages 13 - 19. Monday through Thursday 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m., Fridays start at 6:00! Contact: Rob Powell Steel Drum Band An organized performance band. Provides the opportunity for youth to learn about different types of music and how to play an instrument. Also available to perform at special events. Double Dutch Promotes a safe, healthy alternative activity for the youth of our community. Contact: Demetria Guirantes
Open Gym Night To improve Club members' knowledge of healthy habits, good nutrition and physical fitness through sports activities. Mondays, grades 1-8, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, high school students, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Contact: Rob Powell
Family Service League (Parenting Support Group) Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. Contact: Donna Curiale
